A couple of weeks / months ago when I got my 1990 pre Diversion / Secs XJ, I recall the mechanic telling me that she accelerated nicely to 60mph but when the throttle was flat out, she wouldn't pull past 60. I wasn't too perturbed as I didn't see it being a big issue.

After a couple of runs I noticed this flat spot but also noticed that if I eased back on the throttle a bit I could make 70 without much problem but had little chance of going beyond 70.

After a few weeks and a couple of longer runs, I noticed that I could push her to 80 ish but not much past that. The flat spot is still there but I can ease off for more acceleration and can hit 80 without much issue but am not getting much past it.

I reckon that the carbs need a better overhaul than they already got but that regular use along with some carb cleaning additive to each fill is helping.

Am I alone or are there others with similar problems and am I on the right track to fix it?
