Setting up carbs with pod filters

So, when I dragged the XJ550 home, it had been given pod filters by the previous owner. The original filter and filter housing have been removed and binned. So far for options. Which means that I now need to get the engine running smoothly on pods. Any thoughts? Any regular adjustments I can do to sort it out?

Also, any tips on what I can do with the crankcase breather pipe? Right now someone saw it fit to zip tie an abrasive sponge pad to it, so the oil wouldn't hit the bike. But honestly...
