My name is Matt and I recently picked up a 94(?) xj600 in smurf blue. It was a slow day and work and she just popped up on Craig's List for a scant $300, so naturally I couldn't pass it up. There were a few issues like the fact that it had been left out all winter uncovered, wasn't running, and hand been knocked over sometime over the winter. Basically the owner didn't really want to hassle with getting it back up and running. His loss my gain.

So it's been a bit of fun, firstly I pushed the thing about a 1/2 mile home down a bike lane at 1am through downtown DC. It was harder than I thought it would be, but the police didn't look twice. I was fully expecting having to explain why I was pushing a beat up motorcycle while smelling like beer. Then I had to pull and clean my first set of carbs, drain what looked like Gatorade from the tank. And replace a broken peg. So the good news is that after a bit of work I've managed to get it up and running, and the tough bastard seems like it's in pretty good shape for being somewhat neglected.
Anyway I don't really know much about these bikes, but I dig the DIY vibe of this forum, there are some cool examples of what a bit of work and creativity can do with these bikes. So my first plan was to just get this thing running ride it for a few weeks and sell it but now that I've spent some time wrenching on it and having the satisfaction of performing a minor resurrection, I have to admit I'm getting a little attached. So who knows maybe I'll keep it a bit longer.
Still needs a few things like mirrors, and reattaching the wind screen and a new brake lever.
So here are a few silly questions:
Anyone recognize this lever MC combo? I think it's from an r6, but I don't know.
Second, are the threads for the bar ends removable or are they actually machined into the bars? I don't actually know if the bars are stock or not, it looks like there is an aftermarket riser and the right hand lever is definitely from another bike. I didn't see any schematics in the repair manual for the bars or controls (I didn't look that hard)
Assuming the bars can't accept universal bar ends I think a few people on here are running this bar, any issues? Tank faring clearance?
If I end up keeping the bike I was thinking about doing a naked dualsport/scrambler(ish) config on it like one guy's bike I saw on here, but for the near term I'm just going to get it all safe, properly lubed, and have some fun with it.
Anyway, I've rambled long enough. Hi again, I'm Matt (again), I'll probably be bugging you with silly questions sooner than later. Thanks for taking the time.
