Hi Guys,

Bike: 1992 Seca II

I've tried reading as much as I could about the carbs, electrical, and fuel system as I can...but I still cant get the bike to run.

Here's the full run-down on the origins of my issue:

I started the bike up in February and rode it for a solid month and a half to and from school (note: it was a short distance and I often had the choke on full or half for the first little bit or the ride as it wouldn't warm up fast) without issue. One day I go to start it and she backfires once or twice but I get it going, start driving with the choke fully on as I sometimes do (I know this is bad...oops), and the bike was still not picking up fully which was wierd. I got the revs high enough and the problem seemed to go away for about 300 meters or so, but then it just bogged down/kept backfiring and enentually died. When I tried to start it, it would idle, but as soon as you gave it any gas it would die. It brought it home and didn't touch it for the rest of the day. Come the next day to not be able ot get it started at all - won't even sputter.

Things I've tried:

1. replaced spark plugs
2. took carbs apart to try and clean then (this was my first attempt at cleaning carbs so I may or may not have been very successful)
3. fully charged the battery

Issues:
1. I took the carbs off again yesterday to try to clean them again, but i first tried to us the drain on the bottom of the float bowl. Carbs 3 and 4 were dry.
2. The brass plug in the float bowl side of the carb has sheared off twice when I've tried to put it back together on two separate carbs. I've purchased a new one from Yamaha once, but I will have to do it again. I was really careful the second time to not torque it too much, but maybe this is just a failure on a 20 year old carb? I can post pictures if anyone's curious. I'll order another from the dealer.

I really don't know what my issue is - would those symptoms even be a carburation issue?

I really appreciate any input.

Cheers,
Dave.
