Vinyl Racing Stripe Application?

So I'm going to be running a racing Stripe on the bike and have decided to repaint all the panels and tank. I am wondering if anyone as ever laid a vinyl stripe down before and what the best route is to ga about doing it. I'm thinking Of spraying the base color coat and then laying the stripe before I clear. How long should I wait before I apply the stripe and then how long should I wait before I clear? I read radare's how to on painting and he said he usually lets it flash for about 10min before spraying the clear. I would dare trying to put the stripe on that early. Do i have to wait a few days or a few hours? After the stripe is down should I wait until I can sand with something like 800 or 1000 grit before I do the clear? Any suggestions on the best way to go about doing this would be great apperciated. It's my first time spraying something like this that is this involved and I'm so invested in, I don't want to screw it up. Thanks
