I'm Tioli from Captain Cook, HI on the big island. I recently picked up a 1994 XJ600S with 24K. It was in pretty sad shape and I've been having fun bringing it back to life. Today was the first day that my ride down the coast made me laugh. I figure if you have tuned such that the ride makes you laugh, then you're pretty close.
Started out on dirt bikes, moved to a Honda Hawk 400 in 1979 (bought it new!). Then to a Kawasaki KLX 250 (sucked) then a few years off. My next bike was a 1999 Honda Nighthawk 750 which I liked a lot. I had ridden a Seca ii when shopping for the Nighthawk and didn't end up buying it. I think I would have been happier with that than the Honda, though the Honda was a good bike.
I was an education administrator in Northern New Mexico at the time (Maxwell, south of Raton), and I would ride the bike to conferences and meetings all over the state. Other administrators rolled their eyes when I walked into a formal meeting in leather, carrying a helmet and a brief case, and smelling of gasoline.
My commute to my little consignment shop in Kailua Kona takes me a half hour or so, 15 miles of twisties, along the Mamalohoa highway.
