Oil Change With V&H 552R exhaust

I have a 93 Seca with a V&H 552R exhaust. Rright under where the header pipes come together there is about 1 to 1/2 inch space between the pipes and the oil filter. When I changed my oil and went to unscrew the filter it hit the pipes and I could not remove the filter. Is there anyway to get this off without taking off the headers? Taking off the headers looks like its more difficult than it looks because the header screws/bolts which seem to be a torx type 6 star. Also if I have to take off the headers do I need to remove the whole exhaust or just the headers?
