Hello fellow riders,

1994 Yamaha XJ600SF
7k miles
Terrible previous owners: 2
Problem found investigating why valve clearance measurements were terrible
Poor road performance (low power, low mpg, rough knocking sound) leading to many fixes: rejet, float height change, carb sync, intake manifold collar replacement (all 4), approx. 1-2mm of buildup cleaned off of pistons, valve shim changes

I just took apart all the valves today and found that many of the stems are not normal to the valve head, some not even close. Others have improper seals on the ridge as if something was grinding into it. I don't know what caused this and I would like to know before I put in new valves so the same thing doesn't happen to them as well. My suspicion is a slightly warped camshaft but I have no visual evidence and no current way to check this. Any help detecting the cause of this will be greatly appreciated.

Bobby
