I NEED HELP!

So i am a new ride all together and the xj is my first bike, i dont know much about bikes but i know a good amount. but anyways my xj is not starting. well it all started when i lost the only key to the bike and i had to leave it sitting for about two weeks. i had ordered a new ignition switch with 2 keys, well 3 days after i ordered it my friend found my key in his couch, well i went home, put in my BRAND NEW BATTERY and when i tried to start it it only just made the noise when you hold in the start button, i didnt sound like it was sparking all, and yes i even used the choke but it made no different, and before i lost my key i had bought new spark plugs and put them in, today i took off the tank and airbox to clean the carbs, but still nothing, what could it be? please someone give me some advice thank you :help:
