So most of the morning I spent fiddling with my idiot light attachment for my new Vapor gauge. The battery was already pretty much dead and I'm sure I didn't help much by turning the key off and on to check my wiring/lights. I charged the battery up and still couldn't get her to start. It's been about a month since she was last fired up, so I put the fuel select knob on Prime and let it charge for a bit longer. I came back, pulled the choke all the way out, and it fired right up. I unhooked the charger, turned the knob back to On, and took my supplies back inside. I came outside to jump on and take off and it died before I touched it. Try as I might it wouldn't start. Ended up draining the battery in my efforts and had to hook it back up to the charger.
After another charge session I came back and tried to fire her up. No luck. Put the fuel back on Prime and waited a while. Tried starting and it fired right up. Unhooked, turned knob, and then after about the same amount of time, she died again. Did all the same things again and ended up having to leave it on charge.
Third time around it started up after some effort. I didn't let the battery charge as long this time. While I was checking the tire pressure it died. Started it back up, adjusted the idle knob, and let it run for a bit. I can't remember if it was still on Prime at this point. I hopped on to go for a short ride. I planned on going to the end of the driveway and back but after a successful run to the bottom I figured I'd take her out on the highway. About three miles down the road she fell on her face. I coasted to a stop. Tried starting and after a few tries the battery was dead yet again. I think I switched it back off of Prime at the bottom of my driveway but it could have been at the end of my journey.
So after having to walk my bike back home, which seemed like more uphills than downhills, I've come to the forum for suggestions.
I thought it might have been gummed carbs but I wouldn't think that it would run for that long, if even at all. My second guess is the battery or maybe something else electrical. But would it fall on it's face, mid-ride in fourth gear? My third guess is the knob, which seems like a long shot, but with my luck I think anything is possible. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm going through riding withdrawals.
