Also found that there was so much corrosion, that when I tried to tap the pin holding the float out, the casting broke. Out of curiosity, what causes this? How do I prevent it from occurring in the future? Should I look for more problems elsewhere in the bike? I'm not going to be able to make it run until I replace the carbs, for sure now, so it's going to be a while before I can post more. Advice is always welcome.

Ever seen any of this in the carbs? After I finally found a screwdriver that would work...I got them apart and this was waiting inside.
