I am posting this so that others may benefit from my problems. I recently took off my fairing and discovered a pinched wire off the right front turn signal. After replacing the burnt wire back to the wire bundle under the seat and replacing a fried ignition switch, I noticed the lights seem to dim, get bright, then dim, alot during the ride to work. Then one day it hit me that the lights werent dimming but I was actually getting a power surge through the bike. (which incedently blew out my left front light bulb). I ordered a new aftermarket rectifier for $60 (NICHE brand). The installation was very easy to do an the new rectifier looked alot more durable than the old one. For one thing the new one had cooling fins. Well it worked, the lights are steady and only dim slightly at idle, which is normal. the bike seems to have more power and runs better. So if you are having problems with lights dimming while riding , it may in fact be that the dim is the normal brightness and you are actually getting a power surge. The part was inexpensive and easy to put in.
