do i need a new rectifier?

my battery has been dying so i was jumping it everywhere i went, i went on a cruise with a friend and as i was pulling up to a stop sign i pulled the clutch in and once i stopped my bike died, it wouldn't jump anymore and the whole time we were cruising my lights were dimming when i'd accelerate, we were able to push start it and it fired up and went about another mile or two then really slowly started dying as the headlights were becoming even dimmer, i pulled in the clutch goin about 25 in second gear and it died, i put a new battery in it and it turns over but won't fire up, i was told this could be a problem with my rectifier regulator, any help would be appreciated
