Help!! Headlight wont work right

I have nearly finished my naked conversion and went for a test ride today. All went well so I stopped to eat. When I came out of the restaurant it was dark out and I started up and my headlight was very dim. It was so dim I would have had better light holding a flashlight. I had to ride home some 50 miles or so. I rode down the interstate part way but when I exited and got a small two lane road through the forest I did not have enough light to go over 30 mph. I have installed a Harley sealed beam headlight 55w/85w when the brights are switched on the light goes almost out. Took me two hours to get home.
