Fuel reserve issue

Ok, heres what ive got going on. when i bought the bike from the dealer, it was running on reserve, i filled it up, switched back to normal, and ran it for about 200 mi and filled up before i ever hit reserve. then on that tank of gas coming home one night i ran out of gas switched to reserve and cranked it till my crappy battery died, jumped the battery but couldnt get it started till i added fuel and switched to normal. now again on this last tank of gas i hit reserve and nothing. im wondering what you guys think i havent torn into anything yet and my guesses are either blocked reserve pick up or faulty petcock. :help:
