fueling or running issue?

Hello all, I hadn't planned on having to ask troubleshooting questions already, but it seems Fate/Life has other ideas.
Anyhow, here's the longish story... Tuesday night leaving work the Seca has a little issue staying running. It starts & idles fine but dies upon twisting the throttle. Thinking it was just getting low on fuel I turn the petcock to reserve and with it being a little cold I give it some more time before I take off and then it runs fine, for about 2 stop signs and 1 traffic light and then again dies when I try to take off. After trying to get it going a few times unsuccessfully, a co-worker pulls his bike over and helps me push it across the intersection to a gas station where I fill it up with fuel, thinking even though it only had 135 miles on this tank, but it's also only the 2nd time I've filled it up so I don't know it's fuel range yet either. Well after filling it up, no change, it idles and then dies. :wallbash:

After thanking my friend for helping me push it, I call my wife to come and get me. I then haul it home on a trailer. While I'm waiting, I'm troubleshooting in my mind since I don't have a toolkit on it yet. Hmm, well it could be the fuel filter is clogged and only allowing enough fuel to idle. No problem I'll get another fuel filter and see how that goes. Fast Forward to today, Saturday, after getting the wrong size fuel filter and then going back and getting the correct size and install it. No change other than not running very long at idle.

Okay, after reading some more about fueling and possible fuel pump issues, I remove the fuel tank and use a small oil container as a fuel tank directly to the carbs via a short hose. I do notice the fuel inlet pipe has a small chip missing out of the end of it, that's kinda odd, but it's covered by the hose and not leaking. No change, it starts and idles okay and then dies like it's running out of gas without me even touching the throttle, of course if I do that it dies immediately. I've also opened the fuel drains on the carbs and only clear fuel came out.
I'm wondering what could cause this since it's been running so good up to this point. Is it possible I'm just not waiting long enough for the tank's prime setting or the small container to fill the carbs?
Any ideas, suggestions? What am I missing?
