Where should my pilot screws be set?

Your pilot screws were adjusted and set at the factory using an exhaust-gas analyzer. They typically range from 1 to 4 turns out from seat and each bike has them set differently.

If your bike is stock and no changes have been made to airbox or exhaust, it is recommended that you leave them in the stock settings. Before removing or adjusting the pilot screws, thread them in, count the number of turns, and record this somewhere permanently. This is your baseline and where they should be set after cleaning or removal.

If your screws have been adjusted by some previous owner or if you removed them without thinking about their stock settings, a good beginning point is to set them 2 turns out. This is a starting point and they will require adjustment using either an infrared thermometer or an air/fuel gauge.
