My base gasket started leading about 4 years ago. I haven't ridden the bike since then (got side tracked by my dune buggy). But now I have the bug again so I'm getting her back on the road. 94 xj600s. I've got everything off and cleaned the crank case and cylinder base mating surfaces, I have my gaskets. Here's the thing.

I could swear I've been cleaning rtv off this thing. The gaskets are metal. There is nothing in my Clymer manual about putting RTV on though.

Can someone who has done this before give me some insight?

Also, the cylinder base gasket has a profile to it (height). Do I put the "bump" up or down?

Thanks y'all.
