Hello all riders.

My XJ 600s Diversion with 77.000 km from 1996 have got the classic tapping noise from the engine when idling. The tapping gets worse as the engine heats up. I have tried to reset the cam chain tensioner as decribed here:

http://www.xjrider.com/viewtopic.php?t=798

BUT, after reset the tapping/noise just got much more loud. I tried several times with the same result. Last time i took out the spring and tensioner assembly and pulled the piston ONE click out and mounted the assembly again. After this was the tapping as when i started the project. Now to my question: Is the spring in the tensioner too weak or do i just have to manually pull out the piston one more click to get rid of the tapping? Do I risk to damage the engine if the chain gets to tight?

Thank you.
