Here's a quick write-up on how to remove the fuel tank:
  • 1. Drain the fuel (this will keep fuel from leaking out through the cap vent and ruining your paint).
    • a. Remove the fuel hose from the petcock and connect a length of 1/4" fuel hose. Place the other end in a gas can or large bucket (to catch the fuel).

      b. Turn the petcock to the "prime" position. Fuel will drain through the fuel hose and into the catch can.
      c. Let the fuel drain until most is out of the tank.
      d. Place the petcock in the on or reserve position.
    2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the petcock.

    5. Remove the petcock handle.
    • a. Remove the screw in the middle of the handle.
      b. Pull the handle outward to remove it.

    6. Lift the fuel tank from the bike. There is a drain hose that will come with it. This hose is not connected on the other end and lets water drain from the fill area. Pull upwards and bring the hose out with it.

    7. Set the tank with one edge on a 2x4 on it's side. This will keep the tank level and prevent damage to its paint.
